Weather: Orlando is hot in August — super hot! You’ll see some of the hottest temperatures all year when you visit this month. Expect to see some afternoon thunderstorms or rain showers, but don’t expect the rain to cool things off, it will just be wet and hot. Don’t let the weather slow you down, though — there are plenty of ways to work around it, and this is the best month of the year to visit Disney water park or Wet n Wild.

Crowds: The hot weather doesn’t do much to deter the crowds — you’ll see large numbers in all of the Orlando theme parks. The Magic Kingdom at Disney World may feel particularly crowded, since it is small and  fills up quickly compared to a sprawling park like Epcot. The good news is that big crowds mean big entertainment options and longer park hours, so you’ll have more time to play in each park, and more to see and do, too.

Tips:

Head back to your vacation home or to your resort by lunchtime each day if possible. The hottest part of the day is between noon and 3pm. If you take a dip in the pool or hang out in an air conditioned resort, you’ll be refreshed and ready to visit the park again once it cools off.

Use Disney’s FastPass (free) and Universal’s Express Pass (fee based) to head to the front of the line for some of the Orlando theme parks hottest attractions.

Hit a water park early and claim your beach chair. You’ll have time to enjoy the best rides and slides before it gets too crowded!

Look for crowds to begin to taper off towards the end of the month as much of the Southern US heads back to school.
