Best Time for Dad’s to Visit Disney

Right after Thanksgiving

Christmas and New Years’ are both extremely busy times at Walt Disney World, but there’s a brief lull right after Thanksgiving before the crowds pick up again. If your job will let you extend your Thanksgiving holiday or take off within a week or two of Turkey Day, you’ll have a great vacation. The crowds will be relatively low, yet all the Christmas decorations will be up, and the holiday activities will be in full swing.

Vacationing during this time period means your kids get to see things like the Osborne Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Holidays Around the World at Epcot.

Depending on the dates of your trip, you can even buy tickets to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, a special after-hours event at the Magic Kingdom with a Christmas parade and fireworks display, as well as lots of holiday-themed entertainment and free cookies and cocoa.

Mid to Late January

Once all the holiday travelers go home and the Disney marathon event is over, there’s another brief lull in the crowd. This is a great time to enjoy Walt Disney World with no lines.

Better yet, dads who live in cold parts of the country will become family heroes when they take their kids from cold and snow to a week filled with sunshine. Sometimes it’s even warm enough to visit the water parks during this period, especially if you live in a northern state. Floridians might shiver and grab their jackets when temperatures dip into the 70s, but your hearty kids will be ready to hit Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach.

Late May to early June

The period right before school lets out is always slow because kids are studying and taking their final exams. If you’re the father in a family that home schools or you live in a school district that ends its term early, pack up everyone and head to Walt Disney World. This is one of the slowest times of the year, so your kids will enjoy wildly popular rides like Toy Story Mania at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Soarin’ at Epcot with little to no wait.

Late August to early September

The start of the school year is another slow period because kids are just getting settled into their new classes, and parents don’t want to pull them out for a vacation. If your family’s school district starts late or if you home school, this is another way to take advantage of the school calendar trends in most of the country.

There’s one small detail you’ll want to keep in mind if you travel during this period. It’s the peak of hurricane season in Florida, so there’s always a chance that your trip could be interrupted by a storm. Hurricanes are predictable, so you’ll know in advance if there’s any threat. The chance of having your trip disrupted by a hurricane is slim, and the bargain rates during this time of year make up for the minuscule risk.

Most of the other times mentioned in this article have cheaper rates, too, so they have a double advantage. Your kids will love you for the low crowds and the chance to ride their favorite rides to their heart’s content. Your wife will be happy, too, because you’ve booked the trip of a lifetime and didn’t break the bank to do it.
