Well, we’re nearing the end of the third month of the year and the weather is changing. The sun is coming out and vaccines being more readily available. With the hope that everyone will be able to have one by May, things are looking sweet.
So, why not take the time to celebrate with us today, March 26, 2021, National Nougat Day. A soft, chewy treat that comes in a variety of colors, flavors, and types. Often found at the center of a candy bar. Made by whipping egg whites together and adding honey or sugar, roasted nuts, and sometimes candied fruit.
A Roman Treat
A sweet treat from the days of ancient Rome, you can enjoy this delicious treat on its own or pair it with chocolate or other flavorings. In Italy, this delicious sweet treat is the torrone. In Spain its name is turron. The United States has its own version known as divinity.
Three basic kinds of nougats include:
- White nougat – made with beaten egg whites and honey.
- Brown nougat – made without egg whites and has a firmer, often crunchy texture.
- Viennese or German nougat – chocolate and nut praline
Today they make of a mixture of sucrose and corn with a whipping agent such as egg white or soy protein or gelatin. Large candy companies love it because it is inexpensive to make and used as a filler. Some varieties of our favorite treat are found in: 3 Musketeers, Mars, Snickers, Milky Way, Zero, Salted Nut Rolls, Reese’s Fast Break, Reese’s Whipps, Baby Ruth, and others.
Nougat in the Theme Parks
If you are a fan of nougats and are wondering if you can find them in the parks, one place to head over is Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes In The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter in Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida. Here you’ll find Weasley’s Nosebleed Nougat made from milk chocolate, pistachios, and white pearl toppings. Head over to the Rose And Crown Pub And Dining Room in Epcot at Walt Disney World to find the Chocolate Nougat Bar, a popular British candy bar made of nougat and caramel covered in milk chocolate.
We hope you have found this helpful and delicious, and that you make time today to take a bite out of your own delicious nougaty favorites.
