Visit The Water Parks!
If you’re a parent with teenagers in your traveling party, a water park is a must-do on your Disney World vacation. If you’re traveling in the summer, that cold water feels so refreshing. Even if you’re visiting Florida at a cooler time of year, the temperatures might well be warm enough to hit Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach, the two Disney water parks. Floridians feel chilly as soon as the temperature dips below 80, but hearty visitors from colder states can enjoy the water parks all year-’round.
Why are water parks particularly good for teenagers? Here are three reasons:
They have some great thrill rides
Both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach are made with attractions for the whole family, including teenaged thrill-seekers. For example, Typhoon Lagoon is Humunga Kowabunga, while Blizzard Beach is home to Summit Plummet. Both of those slides drop riders nearly straight down from an intimidating height. Humunga Kowabunga is five stories tall, while Summit Plummet measures in at 120 feet.
There are plenty of other water slides, too, so your teens will have plenty of adrenaline-pumping options to keep them busy all day.
If you want your whole family to experience some of the fun together, both parks also have family raft rides. You might be able to coax your reluctant teens to hop aboard with Mom, Dad, and the younger siblings for at least one trip together. Typhoon Lagoon also has a snorkeling area where your teenagers can don scuba gear and hit the water with a wide variety of fish, and even some nurse sharks, along with the rest of the family.

Typhoon Lagoon offers surf lessons
You might not make it to the ocean during your Walt Disney World trip, but your teens can still try surfing at Typhoon Lagoon. Its enormous wave pool produces genuine surfable waves rather than just agitating the water like the wave pools at many other parks. The park holds extra-cost surf lessons on certain days before the park opens to the public. If your teens have always wanted to hang ten, they’ll be thrilled if you sign them up.
Orlando has other water parks from which to choose
Depending on how long you’re staying in Orlando and how many days you visit the Disney parks, your teenagers might feel like they’re having a Mickey Mouse overload. You can break the monotony for them by planning a day at one of the non-Disney water parks.
Your options are Aquatica, which is SeaWorld Orlando’s water park, and Volcano Bay, located near Universal Orlando Resort. Both are just minutes from the Walt Disney World area and easily accessible via I-4. To get the best deal as to price, combine a water park with a theme park ticket and save at www.orlandovacation.com. Specials are very unique and save huge money for a family of four.
Either of those two parks is a great choice, as they both have a high concentration of thrill rides geared to the typical teenage lust for adventure. However, if you visit Orlando in the peak season when the temperatures are steaming and the crowds are high, Volcano Bay has a distinct advantage. It offers an express pass that you can purchase for your teenagers to bypass the long lines. Sure, it’s an added cost, but it’s priceless when the standby lines snake down the stairs while the express riders get to hop aboard the water slides almost immediately.
No matter which water park you choose, your teens are sure to be thrilled with the selection. They can romp around in the water and enjoy the thrilling water slides for a memorable part of their Disney vacation.
