While Disney is generally better known for character experiences, Universal has a surprising number of character greeting opportunities, if you know where to look. Universal features characters from the company’s movies, animated films and even television shows. You can find everyone from Spider-Man to Scooby Doo in the Universal theme parks, if you know where to look.

Character Dining: You’ll find character dining opportunities at on-site hotels and in select restaurants. Character dining rotates through the three main hotels on a nightly basis, so choose the night that suits you best and dine with some favorite characters. Characters rotate through the dining room as you eat, and you never know who is going to show up. Character dining can be pricey, but is a god way to spend a little extra time with your favorites without having to look for them. A special holiday themed character dining session is offered during the Grinchmas season each year.

Parades: Universal Orlando recently unveiled a new Superhero parade that features some beloved animated heroes. If you are a comic book or movie fan, you won’t want to miss this high energy performance. This is a new parade that just debuted early this month, so consult your theme park map when you arrive for the parade route and schedules. The kids in your group will be happy to see that characters from Hop, Despicable Me and Dora are al on hand for the fun.

Character related rides: Look for characters in areas related to their story line. You won’t be likely to spot the Minions in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter—but you’ll be sure to spot them in the area surrounding Minion Mayhem when it opens. Look for the Simpsons by the Simpson’s ride; spot Dora near the Universal Store that features kid’s merchandise. Some characters simply wander the park and sign autographs, so if there is someone in particular you want to meet, ask an employee where to find them.
