Summers in central Florida are known for their scorching hot temperatures, but you can find a variety of fun ways to cool off in Orlando. If you plan to visit the Orlando area in July, you should plan to spend at least one of your family vacation days at a water park. Whether you’re staying near the Walt Disney World Resort, SeaWorld or Universal Studios, you can find a water park within a few miles of your resort or vacation home.
One of Orlando’s most popular water parks is Wet N Wild. Located in the heart of the International Drive, Wet N Wild features a wide variety of slides for park visitors of all ages. Some of the most popular slides at Wet N Wild include the Bubba Tub, Der Stooka and the Black Hole. If you’re staying in Orlando for several days, you can combine your Wet N Wild ticket with admission to Universal Studios and Bush Garden, using the special ticket deal known as the Flexticket.
Orlando’s newest waterpark is also located on International Drive: Sea World’s Aquatica theme park. Located just across the road from SeaWorld, Aquatica combines the up-close marine life encounters of Sea World and thrilling water slides spread across a 60 acre water park. Popular slides at Aquatica include Roa’s rapids, Wanau Way, Walkabout Waters, Taumata Racer, Hoo Roo Run, Tassie Twister and Walhalla Way.
If you’re staying closer to the Lake Buena Vista section of Orlando near Walt Disney World Resort, you can visit Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. Attractions at Typhoon Lagoon include the wave pool, where you can body surf waves up to six feet tall, Castaway Creek, Gangplank Falls ( a 300-foot long slide with family-sized tubs), the Humunga Kowabunga free fall water slide, Mayday falls innertube ride and Shark Reef, where you can snorkel with reef sharks.
Another Disney water park is Blizzard Beach, which was built a few years after Typhoon Lagoon. Top attractions at Blizzard Beach include the Slush Gusher, a 90-foot tall water slide, and Snow Stormers.

Saturday, June 19th, 2010Mother Day Events in Orlando
Sunday, May 9th, 2010Give mom a memorable mothers day gift with a vacation package to Kissimmee. What better way to express your love for your mother than to make her feel like a kid again. You can bring back the childlike joy with a trip to Walt Disney World or one of the many other attractions in the Kissimmee/central Florida area.
If your mom loves marine life, she can dine with the Dolphins at Discovery Cove. Or you might want to check out Sea World’s Mother’s Day Escape package at Discovery Cove which includes a note delivered via Atlantic bottle nose dolphin, a Crabtree & Evelyn La Source spa essential gift basket, photo and frame, champagne and private cabana. The cost is the standard park admission plus $329 and the purchase of at least one dolphin-swim, which is priced at $200. This is quite expensive but it will definitely put a smile on Mom’s face.
For a cheaper experience with the fish, you can bring mom to EPCOT’s Coral Reef restaurant at The Seas with Nemo and Friends exhibit. When your mom is done dining with the fish, the family can walk a short distance to EPCOT’s annual spring event, the International Flower and Garden Festival. She’ll be awestruck by the majestic beauty of millions of blooming topiary and colorful butterflies inside Minnie’s Magnificent Butterfly Garden.
For the moms who want to just get away and get the royal treatment, Gaylord Palms’ first-ever “Mom Prom & Family Affair” Mother’s Day weekend package, for $149,which includes one night in a guest room and 20% discount on Mother’s Day Brunch in Emerald Plaza on Sunday, May 9 and self-parking for one vehicle.

Try Something Different on Your Orlando Vacation with SeaWorld’s Aquatica
Monday, April 12th, 2010There are so many theme parks in the Orlando, Florida area that are competing for your hard earned dollars. Most people coming to Orlando will make sure that they go to one or more of the major Walt Disney World Parks (Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, Epcot Center), possibly to Universal Studios and maybe to Sea World to see Shamu.
You may not know this but the theme parks can really take a lot out of you after a full day of walking , waiting, and eating. The Florida sun can be quite hot as well. Many people travel to Orlando thinking that they are going to go to a theme park each day that they are in Orlando. From my personal experience it is hard to do more than two straight days at the theme parks and you know that if it’s hard for adults, it especially hard on small children.
That is why I would recommend going to an easier park to conquer after you spend a full day at one of the major theme parks . You may not know this but the average vacationer at the Magic Kingdom walks about 10 miles in a full day. I would consider Sea World’s Aquatica such a theme park. Aquatica is Sea World’s version of a water park and it is true family fun. You may think that you are too old for a water park, but people of all ages thoroughly enjoy Aquatica. Here is a great article on Sea World Aquatica Tips for enjoying the theme park.
You can cover Aquatica in a little over 6 hours and of course, you can stay longer if you choose to and it really is fun for all ages of the family. It can also be quite relaxing as well. You can effortlessly float down rivers or lay out and get a tan while you read a book if you choose to.
The park does have water slides but they are not the type that leave you clinging to your very life. They are thrilling but they are by no means over the top.
After spending a full day at Disney, you will need to have sometime to recover and what better place to do it than at one of Orlando’s top water parks?
