Spaceship Earth is the symbol of Epcot, affectionately known as the "golf ball" among Disney fans. Since it's opening in 1982, the ride has sent millions of riders on a journey through time highlighting man's progress in communication. While the attraction has undergone several minor changes over the years the new sponsor of the pavilion, Siemens, has decided that the ride needs to be updated to bring it to the 21st century. Among the rumored changes are state-of-the-art Audio Animatronic figures to replace the original 1980s models, a new musical score, and interactive touch screens within the vehicles themselves. The ride is expected to be closed from July 9 – November 1.
