Getting Around the Magic Kingdom

Walt Disney World Railroad steam trains make a 20-minute loop of the park, stopping to pick up and drop off passengers at stations on Main Street, Frontierland, and Mickey's Toontown Fair. The train is a very efficient way to travel when parades are being run or there's a lot of traffic throughout the park. Horseless carriages, a fire engine, and horse-drawn trolleys take turns offering one-way trips down Main Street.

The Undiscovered Future World

Walt Disney dreamed about making the world a better place. In this 4 1/2 hour tour, guests are taken back to the creation of Epcot and learn about Walt's lofty ambitions and his legacy. Guests walk to all Future World pavilions and learn how each area celebrates humanity's accomplishments and challenges. The goal is to share the vision behind the park. Cost is $49 per person, theme park admission is required.

Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex

The complex includes a baseball stadium; a fieldhouse that accommodates basketball, wrestling, and volleyball; a track-and-field complex; tennis courts; and multipurpose fields fit for football, soccer, and more.

Shark Reef at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon

Guests can obtain free snorkel equipment for a swim through a coral reef, where they come face-to-face with sharks and tropical fish. The reef is built around a sunken tanker (where non-swimming guests can get a closer look from the portholes). The sharks, by the way, are passive members of the species. All guests must shower before entering. There is no longer an age restriction to experience Shark Reef.

Pleasure Island's Rock 'n Roll Beach Club

A combination of dancing and surfer-style decor awaits guests here. The dance floor is on the lowest level of the building, and there are billiard tables and games on the other two floors. Live bands perform hits from the 1960s to the present. The atmosphere is a little frenetic but nonetheless exciting. Light snacks are available. There are now two stairways for entering and exiting the venue.

Situated across from the AMC Theatres on the edge of Lake Buena Vista, Bongos echoes the style of clubs in Miami's South Beach. Created by Gloria Estefan and her husband, it features the flavors and rhythms of Cuba and other Latin-American countries. Guests dine and, if the mood strikes, even dance amid the colorful, tropical decor.

How to Save a Rainy Day

Florida rain showers come and go with such regularity that you could set your watch by them, especially during summer months. Here are some way to make the most of a soggy day:

1. Head for DisneyQuest. It will keep the whole family entertained and dry for hours.
2. See a movie on one of AMC Theatre's 24 screens at Downtown Disney.
3. Consider taking in an indoor event at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex.

Money Saving Tips

1. Sometimes certain EPCOT restaurants have early-bird dinner deals; it pays to ask.
2. A souvenier mug can be purchased at most resorts, good for refills during your stay at the resort.
3. The Trail's End Restaurant at Fort Wilderness has an inexpensive, yet satisfying, all-you-can-eat country breakfast buffet.

Animal Kingdom's DinoLand U.S.A.

This area of Disney's Animal Kingdom is somewhat kid-oriented; however, it's here that you'll find the most exciting thrill ride in the park, which is far more suitable for teens and adults than it is for young kids. In this area, you'll also see life-size replicas of dinosaur skeletons and discover how fossils are found and prepared for display. Anyone who is fascinated by dinosaurs will want to explore DinoLand U.S.A., which is sponsored by McDonald's. Disney World's Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom

The original Tomorrowland attempted a serious look at the future. But as Disney planners discovered, it isn't easy to portray a future that persists in becoming the present. So the old Tomorrowland has given way to a friendlier, space-age town whose neighborhood atmosphere is more in keeping with the other lands in the Magic Kingdom. This is the future that never was, the fantasy world imagined by the science-fiction writers and moviemakers of the 1920s and 30s.

Disney's Animal Kingdom

The park, which is accredited by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association, is home to more than 1,700 animals representing 250 different species. Most of the creatures are of the animate variety, as opposed to the Audio-Animatronics kind. Despite that, you won't see many beasts behind bars here. Instead, you'll go on safari and see a variety of wild animals living in spacious habitats, with remarkably few separations visible to the naked eye.
