Framed by a two-story-high portico, the Magic Kingdom's largest gift shop stocks stuffed animals and toys, sundries, film, T-shirts, and more. The cash registers always seem to be busy, especially toward the end of the afternoon and before park closing. Nearby lockers make for convenient storage of purchases. Don't forget to peer into the windows, which usually feature elaborate displays ranging from seasonal themes to characters from the latest Disney movie.
Located at the end of Main Street, USA, closest to Cinderella Castle and in Tomorrowland, Tip Boards are an excellent source of information on waiting times for attractions, as well as showtimes and other entertainment information. Check the boards throughout the day. The Main Street board is often overseen by a park-savvy Disney employee, ready and willing to answer guest questions.
Located extremely close to The WDW Resort, there's an Amtrak station in Kissimmee, Florida (Station Code: KIS). Information about taking an Amtrak train from anywhere in the country to WDW can be obtained by calling 800-USA-RAIL. Amtrak offers travel discounts to all students and veterans, as well as to AAA and AARP members who present their membership card when purchasing a train ticket. Amtrak train tickets can be purchased from many travel agents, by visiting any Amtrak ticket office, or by calling Amtrak directly and using a major credit card.
For guests arriving by car or bus, it's necessary to decide whether to travel to the Magic Kingdom by ferry or monorail. The monorail makes the trip from the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) in about five minutes while the ferry takes about seven. During busy seasons, the ferry will often get you there faster (long lines can form at the monorail, and most people don't make the short walk to the ferry landing). Vacationers who use wheelchairs should note that while the monorail platforms are accessible, the ramp leading to the boarding area is a bit on the steep side.
Many of the costumes worn by Animal Kingdom cast members are made of wood--actually, a natural fabric called lyocell, made from wood pulp. The pulp is harvested from trees grown specifically for this fabric.
Disney's Wide World of Sports is a 200-acre complex that contains sports fields, baseball diamonds, tracks, tennis courts, basketball courts, and a 7,500-seat baseball stadium, designed to accommodate professional teams and amateurs alike in more than thirty different sports. A flat one-price daily admission gives guests access to watch as many "nonpremium" events as they'd like throughout the day and tour the complex.
The Funai Classic at the Walt Disney World resort is one of the biggest spectator events on Disney's sports calendar. It features most of the PGA Tour's top players and takes place in October. Guests who plan to golf during their WDW vacation are advised not to visit during tournament week. You may, however, play with the pros if you are willing to pay for it.
