One of the biggest questions we are asked by people going on an Orlando vacation is if they should rent a car or take the shuttle service from the airport? The answer is simple: rent a car. Many people are quite surprised to hear that the Disney World area and all of the surrounding Disney hotels are 22 minutes from the Orlando airport, and shuttle service can cost a family of 4 around $45 each way or $90 round trip.

When you break this out, most car rental companies will offer economy cars for around $22 a day. So for a 5 day stay, it will cost the family with taxes and everything around $120 for the car. This is only $ 0 more than they would have spent if they paid for the shuttle service, and they have the use of the car while they are on their vacation.

The one exception to the rule is if you are staying at a Disney World Resort property, in that case, Disney offers free shuttle service to and from the airport, as well as free shuttle services to their theme parks. So it would not behoove you to rent a car, unless you are planning on doing other things off Disney World property.
