Time is of the essence when you’re spending your vacation at the Walt Disney World Resort. As the park closes after a long day at the Magic Kingdom, guests will make a beeline towards the monorails. Though the monorail may travel faster, Disney’s ferry service has proven to be much more efficient in transporting guests to their cars.
In 2009 alone the Monorail system has experienced 4 major delays of 3 hours or longer. The monorail system which is very helpful and a great way to move guests from park to park but when there are power failures or other electrical issues it is hard to get the cars moving again.
The Magic Kingdom ferry can hold twice as many people as a monorail while traveling only half the distance. During peak tourist seasons, be aware of your surroundings and double-check the ferry queue to judge your wait time. As a rule of thumb, it will take about 2 to 3 monorails to disperse the same amount of guests a single ferry would. So don’t be afraid of a seemingly huge line at the ferry dock; if it is similar or a bit larger than the monorail queue, it will be your best bet in getting home earlier.
All in all, the Disney World ferry is the most efficient (and scenic) way to get to and from the Ticket and Transportation center and the Magic Kingdom.
